The Rema Hort Mann Foundation Awards $80,000 In Grants to 8 Individual Artists In
New York City.
Now in its 16th year, an innovative grant program dedicated to supporting emerging visual artists. New York (October 2012) -
The Rema Hort Mann Foundation is pleased to announce the 2012 visual art grant award winners, each of whom will receive a $10,000 unrestricted grant. The recipients are Larry Bamburg, Yve Laris Cohen, Cynthia Daignault, David Horvitz, Andrew Lampert, Virginia Overton, David Benjamin Sherry, and Ryan Sullivan.
A visual art grant committee comprised of noted professors, critics, museum professionals, artists, curators, and former grantees nominates recipients. A separate independent selection committee determines the grantees. The selection committee members this year were Susan Hort (contemporary art collector), Nicole Cosgrove(Whitney Museum of American Art), Pablo Helguera(Museum of Modern Art), and Margot Norton(New Museum of Contemporary Art).
“Providing support to emerging artists early in their careers can make a difference in whether or not they continue to make work,” Foundation Director Bao said. “And the Foundation has a great track record so these grantees are likely to be the artists we will be talking about over the next few years„if not right now because of this grant program actually.”
