Artist Statement

Pretty little girl voices, poltergeists from behind a screen. psychedelic vermin. we walk the night as villains no longer. and I’m crouching somewhere in a strange bright dark full of stars and wind. eyes dazed, disorientated, in sockets bruised yellow/black, exotic makeup.

rave death. longevity was never the point.

what did she so desire to escape from? cut off, having plenty of time to think, realizing this high rise, this back alley, this subterranean casino, their configurations and structures only incidental — like her…what really confines her where she is is magic. anonymous, cruel, like a shadow, a slow butterfly, with her all the time.

with nothing but fantasy and female cunning to describe this magic, trace its lines of force, measure its charms, trap its movement (plasmatic like celluloid)…depictions can sometimes manage to generate enough truth value to be viewed as real.

the skyline of banal, threatening monoliths collapse from the inorganic violent, into the oil puddle, liquefying somewhere in the iridescent smoke. and with her, the a sneaky adolescent with predator vision, twisted fingernails painted chrome, blinking white/red under the neon flare, looks on.

fiction can be a weapon in the struggle against control.
