Artist Statement

Ramon Silva is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work investigates painting, video, photography, performance, sound and site-specific installations. Silva uses an urbanized vocabulary of color, shape, negative space, relationships between landscape and architecture, and geometry and natural forms to construct a visual and auditory language that oscillates between the age-old and the contemporary. His approach to painting has a Pop sensibility with flourishes of themed conceptualism that represents an analog to his work in music, digital photography and video. While his digital and time-based work requires knowledge of equipment and computer software, his painting requires an understanding of materiality and more traditional, formal sensibilities. In each media, Silva’s work involves layering, tearing away and dicing to reach poignant compositional decisions, from which emerge dynamic skeins and configurations.
