Exhausted Spectral Incantation/100 Seven Inch Records By John Wiese

An integral part of my practice in sound work is to produce 7-inch records. A 7-inch holds about 5 minutes or less on each side, and has the benefit of an A/B-side relationship. I find it one of the most ideal formats because they are so short the only thing you can do while a 7-inch plays is sit and listen.

On the occasion of releasing my 100th 7-inch, I made an exhibition of all of my records. The 100th record featured a single lock-groove of full-frequency sound. A lock-groove is a single loop that doesn’t move forward like a traditional record, thereby placing upon the listener an infinite timeline.
