Artist Statement

There is a house with a light on in a grey room, a generator is humming in the basement, a young man creates artifacts in his room. He draws what he sees from his window everyday. The drafts that occasionally cut the dead air are moist and warm leaving a residue. Sometimes mold spores emerge in the corners of the thick walled rooms.

A woman who lives in the house sits with the young man in the afternoon. Linoleum covers the walls on the first floor landing. The marbled glass set in the front door is yellow and brown. Sunlight filters through it and colored light plays against the walls down the hallway, fading in hue as the dimness absorbs it. Dust hovers in space. An electric fan whirs but they can still hear the muffled sound of passing cars on the street outside. They will be there forever, as months lengthen into years, tossing children out into still rooms.
