Announcing the 2016 Emerging Artist Grantees in Los Angeles

Rema Hort Mann Foundation (RHMF) is thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2016 Emerging Artist Grant in Los Angeles. Each grantee receives a $10,000 unrestricted grant for demonstrating critical and rigorous work as well as an ability and commitment to making substantial contributions in the arts.

The 2016 Emerging Artist Grantees in Los Angeles are Lauren Davis Fisher, Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle, Gelare Khoshgozaran, Nick Kramer, Nevine Mahmoud, Lee Relvas, Daniel R. Small, and Marisa Takal.

For the first time ever, RHMF is offering the Stanley Hollander Award in honor of Stanley Hollander, a passionate supporter and collector of emerging artists who helped RHMF to grow in Los Angeles since 2013. The Stanley Hollander Award, with support from the Hollander Family, is awarded to one of the eight LA grantees for a grant award that totals $15,000.

The 2016 Stanley Hollander Award winner is Marisa Takal.

Through a closed-call nomination process—which included over 40 distinguished LA-based curators and arts professionals—more than 65 artists were invited to apply. An independent jury selected the grant recipients. Jurors for the 2016 Emerging Artist Grant in Los Angeles included:

  • Edward Hayes, Curator of Exhibitions, Museum of Latin American Art
  • Susan Hort, The Hort Family
  • Jamillah James, Assistant Curator, Hammer Museum
  • Kate McNamara, Director of Galleries and Exhibitions, Otis College of Art and Design

Past Emerging Artist Grantees have included Korakrit Arunanondchai, Keltie Ferris, Rashaad Newsome,Virginia Overton, Dana Schutz, Sarah Sze, Mickalene Thomas, and Kehinde Wiley, among others. RHMF offers eight Emerging Artists Grants in Los Angeles and eight Emerging Artist Grants in New York City annually through a nomination process.
